Quantification of agri-environmental indicators for EU27

Introduction

The Monitoring Agricultural ResourceS (MARS) Unit supports the management and control of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) including standard control methods of area based subsidies, compliance with environmental policies, crop yield forecasts and modeling impacts of climate change. A specific project works within the policy framework for integrating environmental concerns into agricultural policy.

Objective

We are looking for a researcher to contribute to the activities of policy driven quantitative analysis of agriculture on the agri-environment. The objectives are (i) to contribute in the improvement and implementation of methodologies for quantifying agri-environmental indicators, such as the Gross Nutrient Surplus; (ii) to give support in the quantification in agri-environmental indicators for countries in the European Union at the regional (NUTS2) and spatial

(pixel) scale with the CAPRI model; (iii) to contribute to the calibration and validation of the indicators with independent data.

Required education level of potential candidates PhD in agricultural/environ¬men¬tal sciences, agricultural economy or related fields (or a University degree and 5 years of research experience after the university degree giving access to doctoral studies).

... the field of agri-environmental indicators (nutrient turnover in agricultural systems, water quality and quantity, environmentally friendly farming practices) is required. Knowledge of models estimating emissions of atmospheric and aquatic pollutants from agriculture is essential. Experience with agricultural statistical data as well as programming languages (GAMS, JAVA,) is an advantage.
