Postdoc position “Remote sensing and nitrogen deposition”

Within the collaborative project NitroSpace (KNMI, ECN, MAQ-WUR, HWM-WUR)- “Space based estimation of nitrogen deposition on ecosystems” you will face the challenge to develop and apply a prototype data-assimilation system in support of assessments of nitrogen deposition impacts on ecosystems and climate. In this postdoc position you need to integrate a suite of atmospheric composition- and meteorological remote sensing products into an atmospheric chemistry model and evaluate the simulated nitrogen deposition for pristine and polluted conditions. Ultimate aim of this project is to assess to what extent such a further integration of remote sensing based observations and models ultimately results in improved estimates of nitrogen deposition on ecosystems.

Requirements:

  • Phd relevant to the theme of the proposed research: Remote sensing of atmospheric
  • constituents/properties and/or modeling of atmospheric chemistry/meteorology
  • Excellent programming and computer skills
  • Creative, innovative
  • Strong collaborative skills.
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills

Our Research Group

The Earth System Science and Climate Change group aims to advance understanding of the complex Earth and climate system with a strong focus on land-atmosphere interactions. The Earth Systems Science and Climate Change Group has about 50 members, including about 15 Ph.D. students. See also: www.ess.wur.nl.
